A Leading-Edge Approach to Treatment of Chronic Disease

Understanding the Healing Cycle and the Cell Danger Response are key themes at the Mindd International Forum 2019. Dr Robert Naviaux’s research and clinical experience have led to breakthroughs in understanding how healing occurs. Here are some highlights of his ground-breaking research and clinical expertise that will be introduced at the Mindd Forum.

Mindd International Forum, 23-24 March (Live in Sydney, Australia and Livestreaming globally)
Certified practitioners who pass the assessment will be listed at mindd.org. A certificate of completion will be provided for CPD applications.

Cell Healing is Essential to Life

Without healing, life on Earth would not exist. Without healing, one injury can lead to another, resulting in disability, chronic disease, accelerated aging, and death.

Over 60% of adults and 30% of children and teens (United States data) now live with a chronic illness. Recent scientific advances have given researchers new methods for studying health and disease. Breakthroughs in understanding now provide new insights as to how to address these growing challenges.

Metabolic Abnormalities Block the Ability to Heal

Dr Naviaux has studied the healing cycles within the body’s metabolic systems. With this understanding, he has reframed how the healing of chronic illnesses can be blocked at a cellular level.

Dr Naviaux describes the cycles within cells that block healing as the cell danger response (CDR). These can either be part of the normal healing process or, may persist abnormally.

Reframing the Development of Chronic Illness

Once an injury occurs, active progress through the stages of healing is driven by changes in the energy of the cells. The understanding at a cellular level of these bioenergetics includes cell-defense, cell-repair, and cell-recovery. Over 100 chronic illnesses can be organized into three stages of the cell danger response (CDR).

A Systems Problem Maintains Disease

Reframing the development of chronic illness in this way can now be seen as a systems problem that maintains disease, rather than focusing on the remote trigger(s) that caused the initial injury.

Dr Naviaux has recently focused new research on new therapies to unblock the healing cycle and restore health when other approaches have failed.

Stages of the Healing Cycle

Interruptions in the stages of the healing cycle may be at the root of many complex, chronic illnesses. Three stages of the cell danger response comprise the healing cycle. These stages are triggered by stress or injury and controlled by changes in mitochondrial function and metabolism.

When a stage of the healing cycle cannot be completed, dysfunctional cells accumulate that contain inappropriate forms of mitochondria, organ function is compromised, and chronic illness results.

The Promise of a New Approach to Treatment

Unblocking therapies directed at stimulating the completion of the healing cycle hold promise as a new approach to treatment.

Prevention and treatment of chronic illness require distinctly different, but complementary approaches. New cases of chronic disease can be prevented by reducing the environmental risks that trigger the damage cycle of the CDR, and by promoting nutritional and lifestyle measures that promote resilience and maintain the healing cycle.

Understanding Triggers that Interrupt Healing

Once illness has occurred in a given patient, the opportunity for prevention is lost, and a perfect storm of multiple triggers can usually be identified. Many triggers can have happened in the distant past and no longer be present.

The first challenge is to identify and remove triggers including the metabolic memory of past triggers. Then a new approach to treatment is required to improve the chances of completing the healing cycle and achieving a full recovery.

Dr Naviaux is researching how to focus away from the initial causes of illness, and towards the metabolic factors and internal pathways that maintain chronic illness by blocking progress through the healing cycle.
